MEXICO El Triunfo
About This Coffee
The CESMACH co-op is thriving with 224 women members—a diverse group including widows, private landowners, and those whose husbands have sought work elsewhere. Their commitment to empowerment is clear: one woman now holds a coveted seat on the board of directors. This is a massive stride forward in Mexico, a state with a traditionally machista culture. These producers aren't just growing coffee; they're pushing the boundaries of quality, striving for the "perfect cup" while upholding CESMACH's strict standards, including organic and fair trade certifications. Their story is a powerful blend of resilience, passion, and love for the craft. Having worked with coffee their entire lives, these women inherently understand the hard work, focused labor, and smart management required to succeed. The environment itself is extraordinary. The farms are nestled in the buffer zone of the El Triunfo Biosphere Reserve in the Sierra Madre highlands. This is one of the planet's most diverse forest reserves, home to Mesoamerica's largest cloud forest and a sanctuary for thousands of species. In this special place, all the coffee is proudly shade-grown. This year's Mexico harvest has been exceptional, even at the field blend or cooperative level (beyond microlots). We selected this coffee for Perennial Artisan Ale’s Coffee Stout for its dessert like notes of chocolate, tree nuts, and caramelized sugars.
