Java is one of the original Ethiopian varieties, and in the hands of the Mierisch family, it’s developed a wild, tropical, and complex character. Java, or “Javanica” as it’s known in Nicaragua, has one of the most unusual origin stories in the Mierisch family’s coffee collection. Doctor Mierisch and his son, Erwin II, were driving home from the farm when they spotted a man selling fruit on the side of the road.
