Nicaragua Tres Hermanas - Espresso

Nylon Coffee Roasters

About This Coffee

Continuing with our rollout of this year’s Nicaraguan harvest, we are thrilled to be share this coffee from Tres Hermanas - Spanish for “Three Sisters”. The farm is located in a valley bordering Honduras, with a slow maturation of coffee cherries aided by just 4 hours of daily sunlight. Cinthya Morales, one of three sisters who gave the farm its name, is a university graduate who inherited the farm from her father. She is actively involved in the local coffee community in Dipilto municipality, giving coffee growing courses in parallel to her farm activity - so as to ensure success and continuity of her farm and region. This washed process coffee is of the uncommon Bourbon Tekesic variety. As explained by our friends at Bridazul, our sourcing partner in Nicaragua, the appearance of the trees and cherries suggests its Catimor origins. After harvesting and depulping on the farm’s facilities, the parchment is transported to Bridazul and dried on raised beds. We are enjoying the vibrant citrus acidity in the cup, presented alongside clean and delicate flavours reminiscent of yellow plum and nectarine. We are inspired by this young family of well-educated females embracing coffee farming despite the hardship and challenges, and hope to see more young producers follow suit in growing quality coffees as a sustainable livelihood. Swing by to enjoy a cup and pick up a bag or two. Keep your eyes peeled for more exciting coffees coming your way as we end the year on a high note!
