About This Coffee

BETWEEN TRADITIONS AND INNOVATIONS The Karana community brings together 377 small coffee producers in the Kintamani region of Bali. These farmers, rooted in Balinese Hindu traditions, grow coffee in harmony with their culture and environment. Their commitment goes beyond production: they promote sustainable practices such as composting, the absence of chemicals and the planting of shade trees. Thanks to a new cooperative drying station financed by private donations, producers benefit from easier access to modern infrastructure. This initiative strengthens their autonomy and improves the quality of the coffee. By valuing local traditions and investing in innovation, Karana members aspire to become trusted suppliers in national and international markets. MORE THAN A COFFEE FARM The farms of the Karana community extend over 477 hectares in the fertile highlands of Kintamani, at approximately 1,200 meters above sea level. In addition to coffee (S795 and Kartika varieties), farmers grow oranges, vegetables and other food crops, promoting biodiversity and local food security. Their coffee processing methods – natural, washed, anaerobic, honey and wet-hulled – reflect a desire for innovation and quality. These diverse practices make it possible to create unique aromatic profiles, while respecting the ecosystem. Karana's agricultural approach, based on sustainability and community culture, helps preserve natural resources and strengthen social ties. The farm thus becomes an economic and ecological pillar for the region, while promoting a respectful and resilient production model.
