Guatemala Familia Ixcamparic Microlot

Huckleberry Roasters

About This Coffee

We wanted to call this one “El Jefe,” but Isaias politely shot that one down. Oh well, sometimes humility gets in the way of a good name… Isaias Ixcamparic, along with Pedro Izaias Gonzales, is the co-director of the Aprocafé Atitlán Growers Association in Guatemala, a producer group that’s fundamental to Huckleberry’s roasting. We’ve been roasting coffees from the group for a decade, and singling out coffees from the best individual farms and families for most of those years. But this is the first time we’ve featured either of the bosses’ coffees for one of our microlots! Familia Ixacamparic is a more fitting name than El Jefe here, anyway. Running the association is a ton of work, and while Isaias has been an unsung hero for our coffees for years now, when it comes to the day-to-day on the family farm, Mercedes and Fernando, their oldest son, really run the show.  Coffees from Aprocafé spread throughout Huckleberry. The group has played a key role in our house blends for months now, and we’re launching Familia Ixcamparic  alongside Aprocafé Atitlán, our single origin coffee from the association as a whole. Then Sister Winter and more microlots - from new and familiar names alike - are in the pipeline. Even if Familia Ixcamparic is only around for a few weeks, the reverberations of Isaias and fam’s work seem almost ever-present here at Huck. Sweet, delicate complexity is the name of the game here. We’re tasting shortbread cookie, apricot, orange zest, and hazelnut, and are stoked to have El Jefe on leadoff for Aprocafé this season!
