About This Coffee
This month’s subscription coffee features a coffee of a less common variety, Anacafe 14. While this variety was developed in Guatemala, our producer friends, Moises Herrera and Marysabel Caballero from El Puente, Honduras, presented this to us during our sourcing trip in March this year. Based on @worldvoffeeresesearch, Anacafe 14 originated from a natural cross between a Catimor variety (Timor Hybrid 832/1 x Caturra) with Pacamara around 1980, in the Department of Chiquimula, Guatemala. After several cycles of mass selection, in which a group of individual plants are selected based on their superior performance, and then seed from these plants is bulked to form a new generation. and genealogical selection by the National Coffee Association of Guatemala (ANACAFÉ), it was released as a commercial variety in 2014. This variety has high productivity, coffee rust resistance and good cup quality. This year, this Anacafe 14 lot caught our attention on the cupping table with the vibrant acidity and juicy mouthfeel, almost like a Kenyan coffee. The layers of fruit tones can be grapey, currant-like and some undertones of citrus. We enjoy the mouthfeel of this coffee, super juicy. Perfect for a sunny vacation, like indulging in a fruit punch at a beach resort. See oour short clip of this coffee taken on our diving trip - https://www.instagram.com/p/DQ9IFNvEhzy/
