ETHIOPIA IDIDO - Espresso
About This Coffee
Amarech Ararso is a coffee producer, entrepreneur, and community leader in Hada Bekele, Idido, in the Yirgacheffe region of Ethiopia. She is a key member of the "Ama Commitment Income Diversification Scheme", a program that supports farmers, particularly women, through training, financial assistance, and equipment. The scheme aims to increase incomes, promote gender equity, and create new opportunities. Her two-hectare farm is located at an altitude of 2,050 meters in the shade of false banana trees, where the Heirloom variety develops rich and complex flavors. During the harvest season (November–January), a team of five permanent employees and 40 seasonal workers handpick only the ripest coffee cherries. The fruit is processed using the Anaerobic Natural method, which involves seven days of fermentation in barrels, followed by 15–20 days of sun drying. After this stage, the coffee is sent to the Moplaco dry mill in Addis Ababa, and from there, transported by train to Djibouti, where it is shipped to international markets.
