Mr. Mengeche Derso owns and cultivates 15 hectares of land in the highlands of the Gedeo Zone, located in Ethiopia’s Southern Region. This area, particularly Gedeo, is world-renowned for producing exceptional Yirgachefe coffee. At 62 years old, Mr. Mengeche brings a lifetime of farming experience to his work. His commitment to quality has not gone unnoticed; he has received recognition from local government organizations for his dedication to excellence in coffee production. Mr. Mengeche is a father of 12, and four of his children actively help manage the farm alongside him. Together, they prioritize sustainable practices, using natural fertilizers like animal manure and plant matter to nourish the soil. Situated at an elevation of 2,300 MASL, his farm is part of a network of high-altitude producers known for consistently delivering outstanding coffee.
