Familia Chincunque

Amaya Coffee

About This Coffee

This is our sixth time to purchase coffee from the Chincunque family, based in the Tablon de Gomez community of Nariño, Colombia. This season we find their coffee to yield a superbly sweet and round profile with notes of stone fruit, spice and chocolate. While producers in Tablon de Gomez typically have farms just a few hectares in size, they all preserve a portion of their land as untouchable forest. The community has a deeply-rooted tradition of ecological protection and is keenly aware of how climate change is impacting coffee cultivation. Despite the challenges that increasingly unpredictable weather can pose, farmers here continue to focus primarily on growing coffee, intercropping with other fruit trees like avocado and lemon that provide food while giving shade cover for the coffee. Our importing partner for this coffee has been working in Tablon de Gomez since 2015, paying premium prices for the high quality coffee produced here in an effort to ensure coffee growing can remain a sustainable business for the families in this area.
