Kona Restoration Coffee
About This Coffee
We’re proud to feature a remarkable Kona Typica from Kona Restoration Farms—a conservation-driven microfarm perched at 1,500 feet on the slopes of Mauna Loa, just above Kealakekua Bay. Johann and Rivah, the husband-and-wife duo behind the farm, are restoration scientists who have dedicated their lives to stewarding land and cultivating resilient ecosystems. On their biodiverse farm, native ʻōhiʻa and māmaki flourish among rows of Kona Typica and cacao. Invasive species have been replaced with nutrient-dense mulch, and beneath it, a handcrafted soil amendment—Bokashi—made from macadamia husks, spirulina, and fishmeal propagates indigenous microbes to build deep-rooted plant health from the ground up. Their approach? Let the land defend itself. By replanting native flora and cultivating a living soil microbiome, Johann and Rivah reduce dependency on chemical inputs. What results is a healthy, self-sustaining environment—and vibrant, flavorful coffee. When harvest season arrives, plump coffee cherries travel down a gravity-fed chute to a handcrafted pulper—just one of many low-energy solutions engineered to work in harmony with the land's topography. Kona Restoration Farms exemplifies a new era of coffee farming: deeply rooted in Hawaiian values, conservation science, and the art of growing exceptional coffee. We’re honored to share their story and their cup—an offering as rich in flavor as it is in meaning. Experience the taste of sustainable and organically grown Kona coffee.
